About Virginia Bird Conservation Initiative
The Virginia Bird Conservation Initiative (VABCI) is a network of partners coordinated by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) that is working to further bird conservation within the state and link it to efforts at the regional, national and international level. Although VABCI was officially kicked off in February of 2006, the seeds for VABCI were planted in March of 2004 through the All-Bird Conservation Workshop hosted by DGIF in Richmond, VA. Three working groups were established at the workshop along the geographic boundaries of Virginia's physiographic regions. These groups now form VABCI's core planning and implementation arms, and have been expanded to include a diversity of partners.
